The singer-songwriter was also a, performer and designer who broke through obstacles in the field. Her function as a Mexican American star was both modern and traditional. She helped bring Tejano to the mainstream in an innovative way. As is often the case when an incredibly bright and friendly star is lost in a hurry the tragic loss of her life has thrown her profile into a quagmire. Many mourned all of the potential that was not fully realized. Since then, her fans are working even more to keep in mind what she's achieved. Selena's shooting death sparked emotion in Latino community that is likened to Elvis Presley, and John Lennon. Selena was a hugely well-known Latino performer throughout North America. Her music transcended cultural barriers and inspired younger and more mature adults. Selena might have been described by many as the Latina Madonna, however she is still a great example to follow. Selena's family values off stage and her participation with AIDS awareness programs are exemplary.
